About Lauren Barkume Photography
I am an award winning photographer who is passionate about capturing people, emotions and the amazing breadth of our existence in this world. I began photography as an extension of my fine art and painting, and was drawn to the immediacy and intimacy of the photograph. My photojournalist style portraits capture a moment in life, a special connection between people, animals, and the beauty in this world.
My background in Anthropology has driven my interest in capturing social documentary in Africa, and through my work with an NGO, I have had the privilege of meeting and photographing many amazingly talented individuals around the world who have invited me into their homes.
I would love to work with you to capture the special moments and connections in your life in a natural and unobtrusive way in your home, outdoors or in a special place with meaning to you. I photograph weddings and engagements, natural family and children’s portraits, maternity, and equine and pet portraits. I also offer fine art prints of the images you see here. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or to request a quote. I am happy to work with you to make sure your vision is achieved.
My work has been published in the African Arts Journal, CNN, BBC News Online, Stanford Social Innovation Review, The Yale Journal of Human Rights, Curve Magazine, Bound Magazine, LOTL Magazine, Maker to Market Magazine, HAND/EYE Magazine, and Searchlight Magazine, among others. I also won a bronze medal in the 2010 Nikon Africa Photographic Awards, Youth Culture category.
I also license some of my work through Getty Images as well as directly through my website. Send an email if you have any questions about a specific image.
