I grew up in the suburbs of Washington D.C., where I took many art classes throughout my childhood. I studied Anthropology with a minor in Fine Art during my time at the University of Virginia, but began my love of photography during a five month stay in Sevilla, Spain. I started teaching myself social documentary photography as I traveled through Africa working with Aid to Artisans as a small business skills trainer in 2007. In 2009 I moved to Johannesburg, South Africa after I fell in love with Africa. I've been based here ever since.
I am drawn to people, I find joy in the challenge of capturing someone's true self. When photographing a wedding, a family, pets or portraits, I will look for the genuine moments that show the connections and love between souls. My lifestyle photography is informed by my photojournalist and documentary work in Africa, so I love to work in a natural and relaxed way.
My work has been exhibited and published in numerous magazines, newspapers, and books internationally. I was honored to win the Bronze Medal for the 2010 Nikon Africa Photographic Contest. Some of my fine art photography is available for purchase framed or on stretched canvas, and can be purchased directly on this website or through African Contemporary Trading.
